Microextraction Approaches for Environmental Monitoring of Emerging Contaminants

During the PerkinElmer Global Environmental Sciences Summit, Dr. Emanuela Gionfriddo gave a talk on microextraction approaches for environmental monitoring of emerging contaminants. The work of her group at the University of Toledo is focused on simplifying analytical workflows for the analysis of emerging contaminants with an emphasis on the initial step of the process – sample preparation. Her presentation highlights the use of solid phase microextraction to selectively extract compounds of interest (including PFOA and PFOS) as a more convenient, greener option compared to other alternatives.
