Getting the most out of your UV and PDA Analysis

Introduction

Ultraviolet (UV) based detectors are the most common detectors used in liquid chromatography. While simple UV/Vis detectors are the workhorse in routine analytical HPLC laboratories, photodiode array (PDA) detectors can afford greater insights into chromatographic separations. PDAs provide both chromatographic and spectroscopic information for peak identification and have found common use for both method development and routine HPLC analyses. This presentation will discuss the differences between single and multiwavelength UV detectors and PDA detectors, as well as important considerations for developing robust UV-based HPLC methods. Special attention will be given to commonly available spectral processing tools to leverage the UV spectral data collected with a PDA detector. Examples will be provided.
