Introduction
Recycled PET (rPET) manufacturers face growing pressure to prove that packaging made from recycled material is as safe as packaging made from virgin resin. Acetaldehyde, benzene, and limonene are three of the most closely watched volatile contaminants in rPET, but testing for all three has traditionally meant running separate methods on separate instruments. This application note shows how a single HS-GC-MS method, built on the PerkinElmer GCMS SQ 2400 System and HS 2400M Headspace Sampler, quantifies all three compounds in one run, with %RSD values as low as 0.46% and recoveries between 87% and 91%.
