The AVI Calibration Methane Cell is the reference material used to calibrate the wavenumber and lineshape measurements of FT-IR spectrometers. This cell consists of two Cell Windows (L1201975), a Cell Ring (L1201681), and a Cell Spacer (L1201680). One atmosphere of methane gas is inserted into the assembled window. The cell is inserted into the spectrometer's slide holder and it's wavenumber and line shape are recorded.

Discrepancies can exist between FT-IR spectrometers. An instrument's wavenumber and lineshape values can be adversely affected as a result of changing sampling accessories and components. Absolute Virtual Instrument (AVI) is a Spectrum software function that ensures wavelength and lineshape standardization for all FT-IR istruments. When AVI is turned on, the spectrometer's Spectrum software compares the spectrometer's wavelength and lineshape measurements against methane cell's measurements and updates the instrument's AVI profile, when necessary.
