Brownlee SPP (Superficially Porous Particle) Peptide ES C18 guard columns have a 160 Å pore size, specifically chosen for the molecular weight range of peptides. The ligand was chosen due to its sterically protected bonding technology that inhibits acid hydrolysis of the siloxane bonds, even under extremes of high temperature and low pH. These columns are filled with 2.7 μm superficially porous particles that contain a 1.7 μm solid inner core and a 0.5 μm porous silica outer shell, allowing for a shorter diffusion path and nearly double the efficiency compared to traditional fully porous silica particles. These guard columns can be used to enhance the performance of both traditional HPLC systems and UHPLC systems.
