The MaxSignal® HTS Nitrofurantonin (AHD) ELISA Kit provides a competitive enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative analysis of AHD. Nitrofurantonin belongs to the class of nitrofuran antibiotics frequently used in animal production due to their highly efficient antibacterial properties. These drugs are also used as growth promoters during the production of shrimp. However, the parent compounds and their metabolites have been shown to have carcinogenic and mutagenic characteristics, which led to the banning of nitrofurans for the treatment of animals used for food production. In 1993, the EU banned the nitrofurans furaltadone, nitrofurantoin, and nitrofurazone for use in animals used as sources of food, and in 1995, the use of furazolidone was also banned. Therefore, the administration of furaltadone to food-producing animals has been prohibited.
MaxSignal® HTS Nitrofurantonin (AHD) ELISA Kit has the capacity for 96 determinations or testing of 42 samples in duplicate (assuming 12 wells for standards). Return any unused microwells to the foil bag and reseal them with the desiccant provided in the original package. Store the entire kit at 2–8°C. Do not use this product past the expiration date indicated on the Certificate of Analysis.
The use of nitrofurans, a class of broad-spectrum antibiotics widely used in the aquaculture industry and their metabolites, has been regulated by several countries and organizations across the world for their harmful effects on human health. ELISA assays are widely used for the detection of nitrofuran metabolites and chloramphenicol for regulatory conformance owing to the high sensitivity, selectivity and ease of use of the method. In this study, we demonstrate the accuracy and precision (CCß validation study) of the simultaneous 5-in-1 sample extraction method by manual ELISA and DS2 automation methods. Sensitivity of the assay kits (LOD) was also demonstrated using manual and DS2 method. Finally, sample variability testing was performed to characterize the effects of matrix from various shrimp sources.
