Detectors for GC Analysis of Ethanol in Blood

Introduction

The determination and quantification of ethanol in blood is typically done by gas chromatography. This analysis is a very common test in the toxicology department of many forensic laboratories. Accuracy of the analysis is most important because if the data is bad, the offender can be determined not guilty. In this presentation, an overview will be given of the different choices of detectors, with a focus on FID with Mass Spectrometry as the optimal choice.
