Inulin is a dietary fiber produced by many different plants to store energy, which is used to help measure kidney function. Specifically, it is used to measure of glomerular filtration rate. Using inulin over creatine as a measure of glomerular filtration is advantage because inulin does not naturally occur in the body. This allows for the baseline levels to be known as it is what is infused.
