Application of [14C]Inulin can be found in: cerebrospinal fluid flow and penetration into brain following lateral ventricle and cisterna magna injections in rat, comparison of amniotic and intramembranous unidirectional permeabilities in late-gestation sheep, tyrosine phosphorylation of VE-cadherin and claudin-5 associated with TGF-ß1-induced permeability of centrally derived vascular endothelium, enhanced nasal absorption of hydrophilic markers after dosing with AT1002 (a tight junction modulator), etc. Special Information: The labeled inulin differs from the parent inulin in that the reducing group is replaced by a carboxyl group labeled with carbon-14. Approximately 25% of the inulin molecules contain a carboxyl group. Glomerular filtration studies (1) have indicated that the slight modification of the chain does not appreciably alter the physical properties of authentic inulin.
To solubilize inulin-carboxyl, [carboxyl-14C]-, it may be necessary to heat the material to 58°C. It has been found by gel permeation chromatography on Sephadex LH-20 that no hydrolysis or decomposition takes place when heating time is restricted to that necessary for dissolution.
