How do I customize the default method for all users
Default method templates originate from the System folder in Penexe\TCCS\VER6.1.2\Config\Sys. When a new user is created a folder is generated in Penexe\TCCS\VER6.1.2\Config\User, with that users logon name. The template method from the SYS folder is copied into this users folder. That method will be used as the default method whenever the "New" method option is selected. If specific values are preferred for default methods, the SYS folder method can be edited with the Method Editor and saved. As users are created this template will be copied out to all users personal folders. If users already exist then the template method can be used to overwrite the existing default.mth file present in each users folder. The original default.mth file should be save as a backup in a safe location. Instruments should not be assigned to default methods. It may be preferable to set the file to Read Only to prevent accidental modification.
How do I prevent broadcast error messages to all of the TCCS clients when I remove power from a controlled instrument?
You must first release control of the instrument and then detach it. These commands can be executed from the Run button on the Navigator screen or Run on the menu bar in Navigator.
I am using Turbochrom Client/Server. My Win95 client will not let me create a sequence because I can not see any grids. The WinNT client works just fine. What might be happening here?
There is a probable mismatch in some of the older DLL files that are referenced in the Turbochrom Client/Server grid control modules. You would need to update these and re-register them. This is done outside of the Win95 environment (by rebooting the workstation in DOS only mode). The following is the procedure for doing this.On some Win95 machines the Microsoft dll, OLEAUT32.dll is incompatible with the Turbochrom Client Server grid control. The symptom is no grid showing up in the sequence editor. At release time there where issues around installing this automatically during setup. With the current release code if you have this problem follow instructions below. The file OLEAUT32.dll is currently on the TC C/S CD. The following applications use the OCX grid control:
All GUI applications use OcxGrid.dll as their source for the grid control API. The following files are required under c:\winnt\system32 on the clients target machine. TO DATE THE CRITICAL FILE IS OLEAUT32.DLL. IF THE GRID IS NOT FUNCTIONAL AFTER INSTALLATION COPY THIS FILE FROM THE INSTALLATION CD INTO THE WINNT\SYSTEM32 OR WINDOWS\SYSTEM DIRECTORY (if Win95). THEN FOLLOW THE COMMAND BELOW FOR MANUALLY REGISTERING THE CONTROL.

If the installation for Turbochrom is locked from updating the registry, try to update the registry for the grid control by hand. In this directory, there is a windows application (regsvr32.exe) that updates the registry for ActiveX controls.
For NT, the syntax for this command is: \penexe\tccs\ver6.0.0\bin\regsvr32.exe c:\winnt\system32\vcf132.ocx
For Win95, the syntax for this command is: \penexe\tccs\ver6.0.0\bin\regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system\vcf132.ocx
Of course, substitute specific directories that apply to your system. A window will be displayed indicating success or failure of this command. If it fails for any reason, make sure the .dll listed above are in your path correctly.
How can I install the Turbochrom Client Server software on a workstation without a CD Drive?
If the workstation doesn’t have a CD, you have two ways to install the TCCS software. Copy the entire contents of the CD to a directory on another machine and share that directory. Copy the CD so as to preserve the directory structure. Next, on the machine you want to install the software, map that directory (using Explorer). For example.. On machine A create a directory , say TCFILES. Copy the CD contents to that directory. On the machine you want to install the TCCS software, map that directory…. N: to point to the directory on that machine. Then simply run the setup.exe on the mapped drive. Alternately...On a machine (such as the server), share the CDROM drive as above, and map that drive on the machine you wish to install the TCCS software.
