Seafood Contamination as a Result of the Deepwater Horizon Gulf Oil Spill
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill has contaminated parts of the
Gulf of Mexico and estuaries in several coastal states. The seafood
harvested from these areas may be contaminated by this oil and may
need to be so identified. Although some of the oil has been skimmed
and removed, dispersed for biodegradation and cleaned up from
landfall, a significant amount remains in the water. Food, water,
and air may need to be monitored for some time into the future to
ensure health and safety.
PerkinElmer offers analytical instruments that can be used to
measure chemical contaminants in seafood, oil in water and
volatiles in air.
